Integrations

Slack notifications and ChatOps

Connect Slack through OAuth for ChatOps or use an incoming webhook for delivery only.

Slack is a live, self-service integration on every plan. OAuth provides rich delivery, signed incident actions, /howlops commands, and optional war-room creation. A manually pasted incoming webhook is delivery-only.

Set it up

  1. Open Integrations → Slack and choose Add to Slack. Approve the requested workspace and channel permissions.
  2. If OAuth is unavailable on your instance, create an incoming webhook and paste its HTTPS URL instead.
  3. Save, send a test, and confirm the expected channel receives it.

OAuth actions are re-authorized against the acting HowlOps user and team visibility. A webhook cannot authenticate buttons, accept commands, or create a war room. Alerts, updates, recoveries, and tests obey routing and channel event filters.

Security and troubleshooting

Install with a dedicated Slack app policy, keep the webhook URL secret, and reconnect or replace the webhook to rotate credentials. If delivery fails, confirm the app remains installed, the bot can access the channel, the webhook was not revoked, and inspect Notification delivery log. See Slack alerts in five minutes and Slack API documentation.
