Add or change a capability plan
Buy a capability, move between plans (Uptime S→M, Status Starter→Pro), or add On-call to your workspace.
HowlOps is composed of three independent capabilities (Uptime, On-call, and Status pages), each with its own plans. You manage them all from one place and they are combined onto a single invoice. Buying paid plans for all three capabilities (the Complete bundle) applies a bundle discount (~23%) to the combined subtotal automatically.
Prerequisites
- You must hold the Owner role to change billing.
- A valid payment method must be on file for paid plans. Manage it under Settings > Plan > Payment method.
Add or upgrade a capability
- Go to Settings > Plan.
- Find the capability you want to change (Uptime, On-call, or Status pages).
- Select the target plan:
- Uptime: Free → S ($15) → M ($39) → L ($99). Every paid plan (S, M, L) includes multi-region probing and screenshot monitoring; higher plans add monitor capacity, faster check intervals, and longer retention.
- On-call: Free → Paid ($12 per active responder / month, metered). External alert ingestion is free on every plan; Paid adds more schedules/escalation steps and SMS/voice paging.
- Status pages: Free → Starter ($5) → Pro ($9). Pro adds custom domain, white-label, custom CSS, and password protection.
- Review the prorated amount and any bundle discount shown for the current billing period.
- Click Confirm.
The new plan limits and features take effect immediately. Your next invoice reflects the prorated difference.
Downgrade a capability
- Go to Settings > Plan.
- Select a lower plan for the capability (e.g. Uptime M to S, or Status Pro to Starter), or switch a capability back to Free.
- Review which resources exceed the lower plan's limits. A summary is shown before confirmation.
- Click Schedule downgrade.
Cancel a scheduled downgrade
If you change your mind before the billing period ends:
- Go to Settings > Plan.
- On the capability showing a scheduled change, click Keep current plan.
The scheduled change is cancelled and the capability continues on its current plan. Re-selecting your current plan (or moving to a higher one) also cancels a pending downgrade.
Refunds
Downgrading or removing a capability does not charge you again and does not issue a refund: you keep the capability until the end of the current billing period, then it changes at no extra cost. Because you already paid for that period, nothing is refunded for it.
If you need a refund for unused time (for example after an accidental purchase), contact support. Refunds cover only the unused portion of a flat plan:
- Monthly plans are refunded for the unused part of the current month.
- Annual plans are refunded at the monthly rate for the months you have used, so the two-months-free annual discount does not apply to a mid-term refund. For example, on a plan billed annually, a refund one month in returns the annual price minus one month at the standard monthly price.
- Metered usage (SMS and voice paging) and prepaid credit packs are not refundable, because the underlying cost is already incurred and credits stay valid on your account.
